Major fire in Leipzig: Kohlgartenstrasse evacuated – no injuries!

A fire broke out in a residential building on Kohlgartenstrasse in the Neustadt-Neuschönefeld district of Leipzig this afternoon. According to Radio Leipzig, thick smoke rose from the roof of the building when the fire department was alerted to the operation. The fire broke out around 4 p.m., after which the police confirmed the fire report.

Early Sunday evening, 21 firefighters were deployed to put out the fire. According to Tag24, this was possibly caused by rubbish left behind in an inner courtyard. The fire actually broke out at 5:10 p.m. at Kohlgartenstrasse 61. The thick smoke that initially rose over central-east Leipzig has now disappeared and there is no longer any danger.

The measures taken by the emergency services

Kohlgartenstrasse was completely closed between Gabelsbergerstrasse and Ranftschen Gasse for extinguishing efforts. The fire department was able to quickly bring the fire under control and, according to initial information, there were no injuries at the scene. The building is currently undergoing renovation, which makes the cause of the fire still unclear, although police have begun an investigation.

The fire brigade's quick response and the given circumstances contributed to the possibility of major damage being avoided. However, the exact causes of the fire remain unknown for now and police investigations are underway to determine how this incident occurred.
