Burglaries and chaos in Leipzig: arrests and serious accident!

On December 8, 2025, several criminal incidents were reported in Leipzig, ranging from burglaries to serious traffic accidents. The break-in at a sports complex and the attempted theft at a daycare center were particularly noticeable.

On the night of December 8th, around 1:30 a.m., a sports complex in Sellerhausen-Stünz was the target of two burglars. According to l-iz.de, the alerted police officers were able to arrest a 45-year-old German man while the second perpetrator fled. The property damage amounts to around 3,600 euros and the theft damage amounts to over 2,000 euros. The police have launched an investigation into particularly serious theft. It is noteworthy that the man who was arrested had already been arrested for similar offenses.

Break-in at daycare

On December 7th, a 26-year-old German man was arrested after breaking into a daycare center on Erich-Zeigner-Allee. A 50-year-old resident informed the police after noticing suspicious activity. The burglar attempted to steal a safe but left it outside. While he was temporarily arrested, he was released after the criminal procedural measures were completed. The exact property damage is still unknown.

Serious traffic accident and drunk driving

On December 7th there was also a serious traffic accident in Leipzig (Volkmarsdorf). A 78-year-old pedestrian was struck by a Ford Fiesta driven by an 81-year-old driver around 4:45 p.m. The police report property damage of around 3,000 euros and are urgently looking for witnesses to the incident.

In another drunk driving report, a 35-year-old Ukrainian woman was stopped at night in Leipzig (Centre-North) on December 7th. An alcohol preliminary test showed 2.26 per mille. She had her child in the passenger seat, which made the situation even more dramatic. Her driver's license has been confiscated and an investigation into drunk driving is ongoing.

A 35-year-old man was also noticed in Dölitz-Dösen. He was riding an e-scooter that was tampered with. The preliminary test showed a blood alcohol level of 1.86, and since he did not have a driving license, appropriate investigations were initiated here too.

Burglary protection and statistics

The incidents in Leipzig shed light on the need for effective preventative measures against break-ins. According to gdv.de, almost half of all burglaries fail due to inefficient access methods. Mechanical security and tested burglary-resistant doors and windows should therefore be given top priority to deter potential burglars.

The various incidents show how important it is for the city of Leipzig not only to rely on preventive measures, but also to increase safety in public spaces. The Criminal Investigation Department continues to investigate several of these cases in order to bring the perpetrators to justice and increase security in the city.
