Porsche-Macan: A million masterpieces from Leipzig - anniversary vehicle unveiled!
The Porsche factory in Leipzig reached a significant milestone on July 16, 2025: the one millionth Macan successfully rolled off the assembly line. This sporty SUV has been manufactured in Leipzig since 2013 and has since enjoyed great popularity worldwide. Gerd Rupp, CEO, emphasizes the model's close connection to the Leipzig location, which has been the home of production since 2002.
The Macan is considered one of the most important vehicles for the location and is therefore seen as an important economic engine for Central Germany. A total of 82,795 vehicles were delivered in the 2024 financial year, which impressively confirms the high demand. What is particularly noteworthy is that the Leipzig location was expanded into a full-scale factory in 2011, creating around 1,500 new jobs.
Anniversary patterns and technical highlights
The anniversary vehicle, a Macan 4 in the special color Frozen Blue Metallic, comes with impressive performance data. The engine has an output of 408 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds. The top speed is 220 km/h. Features such as a leather interior, adaptive sports seats and a heated GT sports steering wheel ensure a luxurious driving experience. The model also has innovative technologies such as a head-up display with augmented reality and a panoramic roof.
In terms of electrification, the second generation of the Macan will be launched in 2024, equipped with a fully electric drive. The Leipzig factory already produces a variety of drive variants, including gasoline, hybrid and electric vehicles on one production line. The new model's high-voltage battery has a capacity of 100 kWh and enables faster charging with 800-volt technology, meaning a charge time from 10 to 80 percent is possible in just around 21 minutes. With a range of up to 612 km, the Macan contributes to sustainable mobility.
Future of the location
Porsche has presented the Leipzig site with numerous awards, including the “Lean and Green Management Award” in 2021 and the title “Factory of the Year” in 2023. These recognitions reflect the smart production and sustainable orientation of the plant. Stefan Schmidt, the lucky buyer of the one millionth Macan, was not only able to pick up his vehicle at the factory, but also experienced vehicle testing on the circuit.
The Porsche factory in Leipzig has established itself as a central player in the automotive industry. The combination of state-of-the-art production processes and a clear focus on electric mobility will continue to set the course for the location's success in the future. The decision to choose Leipzig has proven to be forward-looking and the development remains exciting as we look ahead to the introduction of the new generation Macan in 2024.
