Despite the challenging construction crisis and unforeseen damage that required complete gutting of the building, there was only a delay of about three months when completion. The new concept respects the listed appearance of Joseph consumption, which was originally opened in 1912 and acted as a department store until 1992.

The conversion of Joseph consumption provides for an energetic renovation that took into account the principle of KfW bank for climate-friendly house renovations. Historical details such as the riveted steel doors and the green tiles in the foyer were carefully restored to protect the character of the house. Particularly noteworthy is the newly approved roof window construction, which brings daylight into the rooms and looks like a wall from the outside. 396 emails were necessary for the approval of this window. The revived use of the building follows a modern concept: retail and gastronomy are housed on the ground floor, while office and studio uses of the creative industry are to move into the upper floors. Joseph consumption was named after Gottlob Hermann Joseph, who was largely responsible for the development of the area. The building, known as "Joseph Consum", experienced various removal and conversions over the years, especially in 1913 and 1929/30, so that it has a colorful story. The design of the building comes from the architect Emil Franz Hänsel, to which the neighboring building of the Schaubühne Lindenfels is thanks to.

With the upcoming reopening as a modern low -energy house, Joseph consumption sets an important sign of the development of the Leipzig Weststadt and will in future serve as a meeting point for residents, craftsmen and creative people.
