Fehmarnbelt committee demands future-oriented local transport for everyone!
Lindenau, Deutschland - On June 15, 2025, important members of the Advisory Board of the Fehmarnbelt Committee signed a decisive position paper to promote rail passenger traffic in the Fehmarnbelt region. This position paper is aimed at important political decision-makers in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and Denmark.
The main goal of the paper is the creation of an attractive, cross -border local transport that is supposed to drive the region growing together. The Fehmarnbelt Committee, which has been active since its foundation in 2009, is committed to integrating this region. It now comprises 29 local authorities, associations and organizations from both countries.
core demands for local transport
In the position paper, several central demands were listed that are important for future rail passenger traffic:
- an hourly time between Lübeck and Nykøbing/Falster.
- an uncomplicated ticket system with bridge head tariffs.
- affordable ticket prices without tunnel surcharges.
The members of the committee, including mayor and district councilors, emphasize the need for political promises and financial means to implement these goals. There are concerns that local rail passenger traffic between Lübeck/Ostholstein and Lolland/Nykøbing/Falster may be neglected. There is currently no reliable planning for cross -border rail passenger traffic.
Fehmarnbelt tunnel: an infrastructure for the future
The construction of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel, which began in 2021, is at the center of this initiative. This tunnel is to be opened in 2029 and also takes into account the concerns of rail traffic. A Danish-German specialist working group has been set up to develop the future usability of the rail infrastructure.
The need for a well -functioning transport network in this region becomes increasingly clear due to increasing mobility in Europe. DB Schenker emphasizes that the tunnel will play a key role for traffic between Germany and Denmark.
The developments around the Fehmarnbelt and the new tunnel offer great opportunities, but also require future -oriented measures in the area of rail passenger traffic in order to make all travelers an optimal offer. In summary, it can be said that the realignment of local transport in the Fehmarnbelt region will remain a central challenge in the coming years in order to achieve the goals of the position paper and to further integrate the region.
