In today's game between FC Carl Zeiss Jena and Chemie Leipzig, the team from Jena achieved a clear 2-0 win. Jena started strong and challenged Chemie Leipzig right from the start. The first dangerous situation arose in the fifth minute when Sören Reddemann scored after a corner. Just four minutes later, Moritz Fritz failed with a header that hit the bottom edge of the crossbar.
The initial phase was dominated by Jena, while Chemie Leipzig was hardly active offensively. In the 17th minute, Manassé Eshele skilfully put Kevin Lankford in the spotlight, but his shot in the penalty area was blocked. Chemie Leipzig had its first opportunity to score in the 20th minute when Ratifo shot from 25 meters, but without any danger to the Jena box. Shortly afterwards, Alexander Prokopenko hit the post with a lob (21st minute), which underlined the FCC's superiority.
Jena prevails
Jena's pressure remained constant, but Chemie was able to hold its own until halftime thanks to a few lucky moments. Nils Butzen missed a great opportunity in the 38th minute after an assist from Eshele. The half-time score of 0-0 reflected Jena's dominance, but they were unable to finish successfully despite several top-class chances.
Both teams appeared unchanged on the pitch in the second half. However, Jena took advantage of the first opportunity of the period when Kevin Lankford took the lead in the 52nd minute. Patrick Weihrauch made it 2-0 with his goal in the 68th minute, after a nice attack via Lankford and Eshele.
Outlook Thuringia Cup
Although Chemie Leipzig had a good chance in the 74th minute, the result remained unchanged and Jena was unable to capitalize on further opportunities in the final phase. The game ended with a 2-0 win for Jena, who now start the next round of the Thuringia Cup with three points. The next game will take place against 1.
