BSG Chemie Leipzig inspires: attendance record and seven third division teams overtaken!
BSG Chemie Leipzig set a remarkable attendance record last season. With over 80,000 visitors to the Alfred Kunze Sports Park, the highest average number of spectators in 21 years was recorded. These numbers are particularly impressive as they exceed the 80,000 mark for the first time since the 2003/04 season, when the previous club Sachsen Leipzig played in the Regionalliga Nord. An important element of this year's season were the explosive duels with former GDR top league teams, which also led to a high level of spectator interest.
What is particularly noteworthy is that BSG Chemie Leipzig had the most sold-out home games in the northeast. Ten of the 17 home games were completely sold out, which shows the strong support of the fans. An average of over 4,000 spectators were present at all home games, with particularly high numbers in the games against FSV 63 Luckenwalde and Hertha Zehlendorf, although due to the low presence of visiting fans, the number of spectators there barely reached the 4,000 mark. Despite the great fan gifts, the team overwhelmed their city rivals Lok Leipzig in the overall viewership rankings.
Rankings and statistics
In the overall ranking of the Regionalliga Nordost, BSG Chemie Leipzig took seventh place in the audience table at the end of the season. The team was able to improve by one place in the German ranking compared to the previous year and is now between the Stuttgarter Kickers and Viktoria Köln. Even seven third division teams have to sort themselves out behind the chemists, which once again underlines the performance of the fans and the attractiveness of the club.
While BSG Chemie Leipzig was able to increase its audience numbers, Lok Leipzig has more stadium seats, but they have to give way to the chemists in the audience ranking. This duel in the spectator table is another sign of the BSG's growing support for the current club system.
