Leipzig in focus: Europe's pioneers meet for the obesity conference!

The coming one European BioPharma Obesity Innovation Forum (EBOIF) will take place on June 11th and 12th, 2025 in Leipzig. This international conference is part of the renowned Sachs Forums and is aimed at representatives from science, the pharmaceutical industry, the healthcare industry, politics and investors. The aim of the event is to discuss new ways of dealing with obesity, with a particular focus on innovative therapies, digital solutions and regulatory strategies.

The relevance of the topic is obvious: according to forecasts from the World Obesity Federation The proportion of people with obesity, defined as a body mass index of over 30, could rise to 24% by 2035. In 2020, this value was 14%. This would then be around 1.9 billion people worldwide. The global healthcare costs associated with overweight and obesity could reach up to $4.32 trillion per year, equivalent to about 3% of global gross domestic product.

Research and innovation in focus

The event will attract approximately 150 professionals from Asia, Europe and North America. The agenda includes keynote presentations on GLP-1-based therapies and their impact on metabolic supply. There will also be panel discussions on current topics such as the market potential of obesity medications and the development of new medications. Investors will also be invited to a special panel to discuss financing and partnership opportunities in the biotech industry. The focus is on obesity and metabolic diseases, highlighting the urgency and complexity of the challenges facing this industry.

Leonard Sachs, initiator of the conference, highlights Europe's key role in research into metabolic diseases. Leipzig is often referred to as an up-and-coming center for life sciences and medical research, equipped with excellent infrastructure and numerous renowned institutions such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology (IZI) and the BioCity Campus. There are also dense networks of research institutions, including three Max Planck Institutes and two Fraunhofer Institutes.

The keynote speakers at the conference include well-known experts such as Dr. Andres Acosta, Prof. Antje Körner and Prof. Arya Sharma. The two-day in-person event will be complemented by virtual continuations on June 18th and 19th, offering international participants the opportunity to get involved.
