Leipzig welcomes Raúl Alonso: New coach for fresh wind at SC DHfK!
Leipzig, Deutschland - On July 16, 2025, SC DHfK Leipzig announced Raúl Alonso's commitment as the new head coach. The 46-year-old changes from RK Eurofarm Pelister, the northern Macedonian champion, to the Saxons after the club had separated from Runar Sigtryggsson. This decision follows a disappointing season in which Leipzig only took 13th place in the Bundesliga. With Alonso's commitment, the club hopes for a turn in the sporting course.
Alonso, which begins on July 17th with the first training sessions, signed a contract until June 30, 2027. The goal of Leipzig's manager Karsten Günther was initially to stabilize the team without specifying specific placements for the coming season. Günther described Alonso's commitment as a stroke of luck, especially because of his extensive experience in German handball.

Raúl Alonso started his coaching career in 2008 with the Rhein-Main bees in the women's Bundesliga. From 2010 to 2015 he worked as an assistant coach at the THW Kiel and gained valuable experiences there. He then took over coaching positions in Austria and Belarus. In 2021 Alonso returned to HC Erlangen as sports director and was active as head coach from January 2022 to June 2023. With RK Eurofarm Pelister he was able to win the Macedonian championship and prove himself in the Champions League, which underlines his qualification for the role in Leipzig.
The decision for Raúl Alonso is considered strategically important to realign SC DHfK Leipzig in the coming season. Now it remains to be seen how the collaboration will develop in the upcoming training sessions and which face the team can show in the next Bundesliga season.
