Art and encounters: Mobile studio enlivens the Holzhausen artist colony!
On Lake Ammersee, the Holzhausen artists' colony is experiencing a comeback, bringing together both art lovers and the local population. The picturesque Malek House at Ammerseestraße 19 will be used as a “Mobile Studio” until July 19th, a project organized and financed by the JES Cultural Foundation, supported by the Ministry of Science and Art and the municipality of Utting. As the Mercury reports, the studio was recently opened with a festive evening, musically accompanied by Monika Drasch and Carolin Völk. Mayor Florian Hoffmann praised the initiative and encouraged the two guest artists to bring their work to the community.
The project aims to create a meeting place and invite the population to engage with contemporary art. The two artists, Lara Werth and Hanna Kuster, offer a variety of project days for all age groups. Werth, who is also successful in sports as an amateur world champion in Thai boxing, graduated from the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 2024. Kuster, inspired by childhood memories and interpersonal contacts, works as a freelance artist and art educator.
Events offered in the mobile studio
Various events are planned at the Malek House that are aimed at different target groups. Special programs such as “After-Work Art” on June 13th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., “Sport meets Art” with Lara Werth on June 14th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and “Art, Coffee and Cake for Seniors” on June 22nd from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. will be offered. Another highlight are the “Artistic Parent-Child Workshops” on July 6th, which will take place in two blocks from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The series concludes with a “finissage” on July 19th from 4 p.m.
A look into history
Around 1900, Holzhausen am Ammersee was the center of a lively artists' colony, which was primarily influenced by contemporary Art Nouveau. Many of the studio houses have been preserved to this day. A tour planned for the next day will take interested participants over a distance of around 3 km to the artists' houses that still exist. Visitors can, among other things, visit the studio of Mathias and Anne-Sophie Gasteiger. Further stops include the houses of Eduard Thöny and Clara Ewald. The tour ends in the high cemetery of the local church of St. Ulrich, where many of the colony's artists were buried. The tour duration varies between 2 and 4 hours and is suitable for groups of 1 to 25 people. The meeting point is at the Künstlerhaus Gasteiger at Eduard-Thöny-Straße 43 in Utting. Details on price and customization can be arranged by arrangement, such as Art tour notes.
