Holzhausen loses dramatically: dream of promotion collapses after 1:5!

The disappointment runs deep: Lukas Foelsch, the player-coach of FC Holzhausen, expressed his displeasure after the difficult relegation game against FC Singen. Despite a promising 2-0 lead from the first leg, Holzhausen ultimately had to admit defeat 1-5. This bitter defeat was the result of a worrying performance that Foelsch described as “passive and unimaginative”. While the entire course of the game did not live up to optimistic expectations, those responsible are already looking ahead to the coming season.

In the second leg, which was supposed to decide qualification for the higher division, Abdoulie M'Boob Singen took the lead in the 28th minute. Just two minutes later, Atakan Koyuncuoglu increased, which equalized the lead from the first leg. Foelsch stated that despite attempts to stabilize his team was becoming more and more insecure and less likely. In the 66th minute, Volkan Bak made it 3-0. It was only in the final phase that Vladan Djermanovic managed to score the goal to make it 1:3 in the 89th minute, which took Holzhausen into extra time.

Opportunities and challenges

Despite all hope of a comeback, Holzhausen played in the majority from the 114th minute onwards after Jonas Zimmermann from Singen was sent off with a red card. But the superiority was not used profitably. Instead, Alieu Sarr converted a penalty kick in the last minute of extra time to make it 4-1 and Abdoulie M'Boob made the final score with his second goal in the 121st minute. “We didn't do enough with the majority and didn't play well,” said Foelsch, who was determined given the opponent's strong performance. “Singing deserves promotion,” he added.

Despite the bitter defeat and the missed opportunity for promotion, Foelsch remains optimistic. Holzhausen ended the season in the Württemberg Association League as runner-up with 72 points and scored 93 goals. Due to these solid performances, the team has good prospects for next season, which Foelsch is already looking forward to. “It hurts a lot, but it takes a few days to accept it,” reflected the coach, assuring that his team will learn from this experience.
