Donkey race in Teisendorf: Apollo 13 wins in the turbulent finale!

On June 8, 2025, the 23rd donkey race took place as part of the beer tent week in Holzhausen near Teisendorf. The event, which has the motto “Animal protection is a top priority”, once again attracted large numbers of spectators who crowded around the course to watch the exciting competitions. Moderator Ludwig Pastötter introduced the participating donkeys during the race and reported on their characteristics and origins. Among the nine donkeys, Apollo 13 was a very special star because this donkey won the final run.

Donkey races are a popular tradition in this region, and the Holzhausen beer tent community organized an extraordinary event again this year. The new mode included three preliminary rounds, followed by a consolation heat for the losers. The participating donkeys were brought across the finish line in a variety of ways - by pulling, pushing or even carrying them. The audience once again experienced the unpredictable characters of the animals. An example of this was Rosalie the donkey, who was dependent on the help of other teams. Donkey Fex showed his strong will as an impetuous animal, while Miza was described as the “coziest rocket”.

Prizes and Rewards

The consolation race was won by Donkey Emil, who was known for his stubbornness, while the no less spectacular final race ended with the victory of Apollo 13, which crossed the finish line ahead of Miza and Mona. Moritz, the driver, and runner Felix were awarded a carrot and a cuddle for Apollo 13. At the prize distribution, which was carried out by Alois Zillner, Hans Grabner and Ludwig Pastötter, all drivers and pushers received medals and salt stones for the animals as a reward. There were also rubber balls for the little spectators in the tent.
The musical accompaniment of the afternoon was provided by the “Hoizleitn Musi”, which reinforced the happy atmosphere.

Part of the beer tent week

The beer tent week in Holzhausen, which lasts from June 7th to 15th, 2025, includes many other program items. Mayor Thomas Gasser and brewery boss Christian Wieninger opened the event with a celebration on June 7th. In addition to the donkey race, highlights include the cold blood festival on June 15th and the Leonhardi ride on June 9th, both of which will attract many visitors.
