Excitement in the WFV Cup: byes for Balingen and Albstadt!

Today, July 2, 2025, the starting signal for the new cup season in Württemberg amateur football was given in Stuttgart. As in the 74th edition of the DB Regio-wfv Cup, a total of 109 teams are involved in the competition, which extends from the regional league to the 3rd league and includes 12 district cup winners. The draw for the 1st round took place on Wednesday afternoon in the wfv office and was broadcast live on the wfv YouTube channel. The first round of games is scheduled for the weekend of July 26th and 27th, 2025, the second round follows on August 2nd and 3rd, 2025 and the third round on August 9th and 10th, 2025. What is particularly exciting is the fact that 19 teams received a bye during the draw.

The defending champions SG Sonnenhof Großaspach remain unaffected by the first round and receive a bye. TSG Balingen, VfB Bösingen, VfL Mühlheim, SV Zimmern and FC 07 Albstadt can also look forward to a bye. FC Holzhausen will face TSG Tübingen in their first game, while SC 04 Tuttlingen will host FC Rottenburg. SV Winzeln, who recently won the cup in the Black Forest/ Zollern, will play in the home game against SV Nehren. Another notable duel will be played between TSV Harthausen/Scher and VfL Nagold, where Harthausen will be challenged in the away game.

Group overview and future draws

The first round games are divided into four regional groups. There are 29 teams represented in Group 1, including the defending champions SG Sonnenhof Großaspach and four Oberliga and Verbandsliga teams. Group 2 includes 30 teams, including the favored Stuttgarter Kickers. In Group 3, TSG Balingen meets SSV Reutlingen and Group 4 includes teams like SSV Ulm 1846 and FV Ravensburg.

Also important is the draw for the second and third rounds, which takes place after the first round and is determined by a random generator on DFBnet. The results of these draws will be published on FUSSBALL.DE in the evening. The highlight of the competition will be the final on May 23, 2026 in the GAZi Stadium on the Waldau, the winner of which will also qualify for the 2026/27 DFB Cup.

The anticipation for the new games in the DB Regio-wfv Cup is great, not least because SG Sonnenhof Großaspach will play an important DFB Cup first round game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on August 15, 2025. The exciting time in amateur football in Württemberg has begun and the teams are preparing at full steam for the challenges ahead.
