Team European Championship 2025 in Madrid: Germany's athletes give everything!
Madrid, Spanien - From June 27th to 29th, 2025, Madrid becomes the scene of the European Athletics Team Championships. The important event that has been held since 2009 brings together the 16 best national teams in Europe to fight for the title in an exciting competition. The German Athletics Association (DLV) will compete with strong athletes after the team took the excellent third place in 2023. Historically, Germany has already won three victories in the team European Championship, which highlights the expectations for the upcoming competitions. The competition will be launched on June 26 with a pole vault competition in front of the Majestic Royal Palace.
The championship comprises 34 individual decisions and relay competitions over 4 × 100 meters for men and women as well as over 4 × 400 meters in mixed format. For each discipline, the DLV can send an athlete into the race, which enables a wide range of talents from Germany.
strong participants from Germany
The list of remarkable athletes who will compete for the DLV is impressive. Julian Weber, the 90-meter spear thrower from the USC Mainz, will demonstrate his skills. Malaika Mihambo, Olympic champion of the long jumpers and member of the LG Kurpfalz, will also appear on the big stage. Yemisi Ogunleye, another Olympic champion, will start in the MTG Mannheim shot put competition. In addition, Frederik Ruppert, a new German record holder over 3,000 meters of obstacle and part of the LAV Stadtwerke Tübingen, will do his best, while Robert Farken, new German record holder from SG Motor Gohlis-Nord Leipzig, is also one of the hopeful athletes.
The European Athletics Team Championship is not only a platform for individual success, but is also evaluated according to a unique point system that takes into account the placements of the entire nations. The disciplines are designed in a way that men and women are equivalent, with the exception of the short hurdle route. For example, all nations in the different disciplines compete with only one athlete or a season and collect points to optimally cut off in the overall result.
A look at the story
The team European Team goes back to the European Athletics European, which has been forming the platform for this top-class competition since 2009. In the first edition in 2009 in Leiria, Portugal, Germany secured the title, followed by Russia and the United Kingdom on the other podium places. The format of the competitions has developed over the years: the teams are divided into different leagues, and the Superliga has only had eight nations left since 2021. From 2017, only two teams will leave the Superliga, while two teams rise from the 1st division.
With the upcoming team of 2025 in Madrid, athletics will be back in the spotlight. The atmosphere will be shaped by the passion of the athletes and the support of the fans, while the participants fight for fame and points for their nations. Those who qualify for participation will not only start for themselves, but also for their country's honor.
