German stars celebrate double victory at the Diamond League final in Zurich!

On August 28, 2025, the Diamond League final took place in Zurich, a spectacular event where German athletes Frederik Ruppert and Julian Weber shone. Both athletes secured overall victory in their disciplines and delivered an impressive performance that thrilled athletics fans. The competition was characterized by records and exciting duels.

Frederik Ruppert, who competes for LAV Stadtwerke Tübingen, accelerated to third place in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and crossed the finish line in 8:09.02 minutes. In doing so, he became the first European to achieve overall victory in this discipline in the Diamond League. He relegated U20 world champion Edmund Serem from Kenya, who followed in 8:09.96 minutes, to second place. Third in the league was Salaheddine Ben Yazide from Morocco with a time of 8:14.10 minutes, while Mohamed Abdilaahi from Cologne Athletics took fourth place in 7:37.31 minutes. Ruppert thus confirmed his excellent form before the upcoming World Championships, for which he plans to train for a week at higher altitudes.

Julian Weber's javelin throw evolution

Julian Weber from USC Mainz delivered another highlight of the evening in the javelin throw. With two throws over 90 meters, he not only took the lead, but also significantly increased his personal best. The first throw was 91.37 meters, followed by an even more impressive second throw of 91.51 meters, which also gave him the world best of the year. Neeraj Chopra of India had to make do with his throw of 85.01 meters and took second place, while Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad & Tobago took third place with 84.95 meters.

Further results from the German athletes

The German athletes were not the only ones who showed remarkable performances. Malaika Mihambo from LG Kurpfalz jumped 6.92 meters in the long jump and secured third place. However, the victory went to the Italian Larissa Iapichino, who narrowly had the upper hand with 6.93 meters. Hilary Kpatcha of France completed the podium with 6.75 meters.

In the other competitions, Robert Farken from SG Motor Gohlis-Nord Leipzig caused a sensation in the 1,500 meters, where he finished ninth in 3:31.30 minutes, while Niels Laros from the Netherlands was the winner with a national record of 3:29.20 minutes.

The discus throwers also performed with Henrik Janssen from SC Magdeburg. He threw 66.37 meters, but had to admit defeat to Mykolas Alekna from Lithuania, who took first place with 68.89 meters. In the sprint races, Noah Lyles from the USA showed his dominance in the 200 meters and won in 19.74 seconds. Christian Coleman followed him in the 100 meters in 9.97 seconds.

Overall, the Diamond League final in Zurich was an unforgettable evening that celebrated both records and personal bests. The one-two punch from Ruppert and Weber not only symbolizes the strength of the German athletics team, but also sets standards for upcoming competitions, including the upcoming World Championships.
