Alina Kenzel shines in Madrid: new shot put record for the World Cup!
The shot put competition at the Silver Label Meeting in Madrid (Spain) on July 20, 2025 featured an impressive performance from Alina Kenzel. The 27-year-old athlete from VfB Stuttgart pushed the ball to a distance of 18.91 meters, surpassing both her outdoor best by 22 centimeters and her indoor best by 2 centimeters. Her previous indoor best was 18.89 meters. With this outstanding performance, Kenzel met the direct standard of 18.80 meters for the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo, which will take place from September 13th to 21st, 2025, as leichtathletik.de reports.
At the same competition, world champion Chase Jackson from the USA secured victory in the shot put with an impressive throw of 20.27 meters. Another German participant, Julia Ritter from TV Wattenscheid 01, reached seventh place with 17.06 meters.

The athletics gala also featured notable results in other disciplines. Nele Weßel (TV Waldstraße Wiesbaden) took second place in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:08.76 minutes. The race was won by Spain's Marta Perez, who ran the fastest time of 4:08.46 minutes. Majtie Kolberg (LG Kreis Ahrweiler) also showed a strong performance by completing the 800 meter race in 2:00.28 minutes. Elena Kelety from Frankfurt Athletics completed the 400 meter hurdles in 55.87 seconds, while Sina Mayer from LAZ Zweibrücken sprinted over 100 meters in 11.39 seconds.

Alina Kenzel was born on August 10, 1997 in Konstanz and has developed into one of the best shot putters in Germany since she started playing handball at the age of 13. She has been a member of VfB Stuttgart since 2023, after previously playing for VfL Waiblingen. Kenzel is 182 cm tall and weighs 90 kg. Her sporting successes are impressive, including several medals at the U20 World and U23 European Championships as well as numerous placings at German Championships and Indoor Championships, which underline her talent. There is a lot of scope for her career, and her trainer Peter Salzer as well as her first trainers Norbert Apfel and Sabrina Werrstein have made a significant contribution to her career, informs Wikipedia.
