Arsonist in Leipzig: Charged with attempted murder and 10 fires!

The Leipzig public prosecutor's office has brought charges against a 33-year-old man who is suspected of having committed multiple arson attacks in Leipzig-Schleußig and near the Kleinzschocher public park. As MDR reports, a total of ten cases of arson have been charged. This includes a particularly serious case in which a person was sleeping in a mobile home that was set on fire on the night of June 14, 2025.

The suspect is not only on trial for the numerous arsons, but also for attempted murder and attempted aggravated arson resulting in death. In the crimes, which occurred in mid-June 2025, nine cars and a caravan were unsuccessfully set on fire. The estimated material damage amounts to around 120,000 euros.

Charges in detail

The indictment includes the following points in total:

  • Zehn Fälle von Brandstiftung
  • Ein Fall von versuchtem Mord
  • Versuch der schweren Brandstiftung mit Todesfolge

The suspect was provisionally arrested on June 20, 2025 and has been in custody since then. Further details about the investigation have not yet been published.

The incident, which led to charges of attempted murder and attempted aggravated arson, shows the dangerous extent of the crimes. The affected person woke up to smoke from the burning mobile home and was fortunately able to extinguish the fire himself.

Start of trial still uncertain

The start of the trial has not yet been set and the public prosecutor is holding back from making any further statements. The public will be kept updated as the investigation continues.
