Friends save the pantry” in Schleußig: crowdfunding for a new beginning!
On July 5, 2025, the “Pantry” at Holbeinstrasse 19 in Leipzig-Schleußig closed its doors forever. The small shop was an integral part of the community for over 20 years and was valued as “a little piece of home.” Owner Andreas Kundt and his team had been running the popular place to breathe deeply and meet people since the early 2000s. The closure was due to financial and health reasons, which had increased in urgency in the recent past.
However, Andreas Kundt plans to remain active until mid-2024 and is negotiating a possible successor. Despite the difficult decision to close, there is a ray of hope: a group of friends have launched a crowdfunding campaign to help Andreas pay off the financial burden. The target sum of 20,000 euros is intended to help cover outstanding invoices, taxes as well as personnel and material costs. According to the LVZ More than 62 percent of the required amount was already collected within the first six days. Over 75 percent of the target amount has now been reached.
Crowdfunding for a new beginning
The crowdfunding campaign not only aims to pay off debts, but also to give Andreas a fresh start. The community strives to maintain Holbeinstrasse as an important meeting point in the neighborhood. Supporters are invited to contribute ideas on how the site could be used in the future. A small solidarity farewell party for the friends, supporters and visitors to the pantry is also planned; the exact date will be announced later.
The “pantry” was valued by many not only as a shop, but as a meeting place. In the Leipzig Internet newspaper emphasizes that the closure of the pantry represents a loss for the entire neighborhood. The store's financial situation was strained, and Andreas Kundt's friends are now taking the initiative to support him during this difficult time.
The friendly support shows how important the “pantry” was and is for the local community. The solidarity of neighbors, friends and former customers is not only felt in financial terms. It also represents the collective support that Andreas Kundt received in the final phase of his life's work to date.
