Graffiti attack on Leipzig Superblitzer: Police catch suspect!
An incident occurred in the north of Leipzig on Monday night that caused a stir. A super speed camera on Theresienstrasse in the Eutritzsch district was defaced with graffiti. The police received information about the graffiti around 2 a.m., which is said to have impaired the function of the enforcement trailer. During the investigation, a 19-year-old was found near the speed camera and suspicious paint residues were found on his hands. The identities of an 18-year-old and another 19-year-old were also identified.
The exact amount of damage caused by the color attack remains unclear for the time being. The police have now started investigations into disruption of public operations and damage to property. This incident shows once again the challenges the authorities have in dealing with vandalism and graffiti in the city.
Graffiti vandalism in Leipzig
Leipzig was already shaken by another graffiti incident in January 2023. At that time, a group of around 20 people sprayed graffiti that was around 50 meters long and 1.8 meters high on Georg-Schwarz-Straße. This group fled when the police spotted them. As part of the search, several young men in the area were caught; four of them, aged 23 to 26, were found to have evidence that corroborated the suspicion of property damage, as blick.de reports.
The current incident and the already known cases illustrate the increasing problem of vandalism in Leipzig. The city and the police are faced with the challenge of finding effective measures to prevent and combat such crimes. With dedicated investigations and tips from citizens, the authorities hope to reduce such crimes in the future.
