David Wagner takes over the youth management at RB Leipzig: New way for talents!

Leipzig, Deutschland - rb Leipzig has announced that Manuel Baum will resign from his position as a young manager on June 30th. For personal reasons, the trainer leaves the club, which forces those responsible for a successor search. As reports [Transfermarkt] (https://www.transfermarkt.de/wagner-vor-sinstieg-als- after-pleiter-in-leipzig-beste-kontakte-zu-fussballchef-klopp/View/news/455321), David Wagner is expected to be the new head of the youth performance center.

Wagner, who last worked as head coach at Norwich City from January 2023 to May 2024, is the management of one of the key positions in the club. Cooperation with Norwich City ended after the missed promotion to the Premier League. In impressive 75 games, Wagner scored an average of 1.47 points per game. In his career, he previously trained BSC Young Boys, Schalke 04 and Huddersfield Town, spending the longest time at Huddersfield with a total of 154 games.

Wagner's connections to Klopp

The personal and professional connection between Wagner and Jürgen Klopp is remarkable. Klopp, who has been working as a football chief at RB Leipzig since the beginning of this year, was Wagner's best man and they played together for Mainz in the past. This close relationship could prove to be advantageous for young talent at RB Leipzig, since Wagner already knows the philosophy of Klopp. In addition, the two held lectures together in April on the development of young talent at the Wings Cup in Leipzig, which shows that the contact has never been torn down. According to 90min, the goal is to significantly increase the permeability of talents from the young area to the professional squad.

The Situation in the youth department of RB Leipzig is challenging. Over the past ten years, only 25 youth players from the U19 have been integrated into the professional squad, who jointly played only 41 competitive games. This illustrates the need for effective development and integration of talented players.

Manuel Baum, who had been responsible for the young department and the Academy at RB Leipzig since July 2023, was thanked by sports director Marcel Schäfer for his commitment. Schäfer respects Baum's decision and looks forward to the future development of young talent under Wagner. The changeover at the management level of the youth performance center could bring a new wind to the local talent promotion.
