On Thursday, another wave of shock calls shook the Bautzen and Görlitz districts, especially in Hoyerswerda, Kamenz, Weißwasser and Bautzen. The perpetrators often posed as criminal investigators or called tearfully with the news that family members had been involved in a fatal traffic accident and now urgently needed bail to be released from custody. The sums demanded varied enormously: from 5,000 to a shocking 130,000 euros.
The police warn urgently against these unscrupulous fraudsters: Suspicious calls that contain demands for money for alleged accidents should be stopped immediately. The police never demand cash, jewelry or gold over the phone and never call 110. Citizens are asked never to hand over valuables to strangers and instead to inform the police themselves immediately!
