Border controls in Görlitz: Three arrests and debts push for payment!
On Thursday there were several arrests in Görlitz as a result of the newly introduced border controls. First, a 35-year-old Pole was caught on the Old Town Bridge, who still owed 350 euros to the Chemnitz state justice fund. In order to avoid a prison sentence, he paid the amount due on site totaling 669.80 euros and was thus able to regain his freedom.
Shortly afterwards, a 42-year-old fellow countryman was arrested as a passenger. He had two arrest warrants for not paying a fine totaling 1,200 euros (for forging documents). Although he stated to the police that he wanted to pay the amount immediately, this remained his intention until Friday morning. Currently, he could end up behind bars until his family pays for the punishment.
