Lightning strike causes spectacular roof fire in Dresden!
In the early morning hours of June 23, 2025, a thunderstorm passed over Dresden and lightning struck the roof of an apartment building on Bolivarstrasse. The fire ignited violently, but the residents were able to alert the fire department in time and get to safety. When the emergency services arrived, flames were already coming out of the roof and thick clouds of smoke were rising. Around 40 firefighters fought the fire at full speed and used a turntable ladder and respiratory protection to extinguish the fire from both the outside and the inside. Despite the quick actions, it turned out that a smoldering fire had developed under the roof cladding, which resulted in increased smoke. Bolivar Street remains closed at this time and the fire department is asking road users to avoid the area.
At the same time, there was another fire in a garage courtyard, which caused significant damage to a garage and a BMW parked there. The emergency services had to force their way into the garage and fight the fire with water and extinguishing foam. A firefighter was injured while extinguishing the fire and was taken to hospital. The police have started investigating the cause of the fire. A total of around 70 fire and rescue services were active at both locations.
